Finally…Steve Hamilton’s Latest About to Be Released.

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

The eagerly awaited novel by local favorite Steve Hamilton will be released on January 5th.  “The Lock Artist” is the author’s 2nd departure from his popular Alex McKnight series set in the Eastern Upper Peninsula.  However, it appears that it may very well be his best effort yet.

We are currently taking advance orders for the Hardcover, with expected delivery on the release date.  Also, stay tuned and we’ll let you know if he’ll be making an appearance at the store to say Hi and promote the book.

We’re Back

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Not being very sharp in matters of technology, I have no idea why the website was down for a substantial period of time, or for that matter, why it’s back now.  I can only say I am very glad it is, and to whoever had a part in it, Thank You Very Much.

Things are continuing to go well at the bookstore.   We’re getting a lot of new releases (2008-2009) in right now.

If you’re in the neighborhood, stop in and say HI.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

It’s been quite a year, with our move into a new location.  We’d like to take a second to thank all of our loyal customers who showed remarkable patience before, during and after the move.  Thank you all so much!  Not sure what we’re going to do for an encore in 2009.  Of course, the Coffee Shop is still in the future.  Anyone out there who would like to run their own business, with a minimum of start up, get in touch at info@upnorthbooks.com, or call us at (906) 632-6620.  We’d much prefer to rent the space, rather than run it ourselves.  We’ve discovered already that the bookstore is plenty to keep us busy.

Steve Hamilton is coming out with a new book in March.  That’s always cause for celebration.  We are taking pre-orders for The Crimes of Michael K.  It will be available in hardcover in early March.  We’ll let you know if and when Steve will be here for a visit and a book signing.

Guess that’s all for new.  To all of our friends,  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Mike & Marge

Merry Christmas

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

We’re back.  Not that we really ever left, but for a while I was having a bit of a problem accessing the website.  I’m sorry to say that it was during the time we had our open house, and I was not able to tell everyone about it.

I would like to thank Deidre Stevens and Richard Hill for coming a signing their books, and being so gracious, in spite of the fact that the turnout wasn’t quite what we’d hoped for.

Things are going great in our new location in the Soo Plaza.  If you haven’t had a chance to stop by and say HI, please do.

Guess that’s it for now.   Hope everyone has a MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Nightwork now available in paperback

Friday, September 19th, 2008

Steve Hamilton’s latest novel “Nightwork” is now available in paperback. We have it in stock for $6.99 plus tax.

We’re Open (update)

Thursday, September 18th, 2008

We’re open and working hard at our new location in the Soo Plaza.  We have about half of our books back on the shelves and are working hard every day to get more up as fast as possible.  Thanks to all of our customers….you guys are the greatest, for being patient, understanding and good-humored as we get the store in order.

We’re Open!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Took a lot of doing and a huge amount of help from some of the best friends a person could ever ask for, but we’re open and doing business in our new location.  For those who don’t know, that’s at 3362 I-75 Business Spur, otherwise known as the Soo Plaza.

It’s still a work in progress, but we’re getting more books on the shelves every day.  I estimate that we have about 20% up on the shelves.  That may not sound like much, but 20% of 30,000 books, is still about 6,000.

We’re open Mon thru Sat from 10am until 6pm.

We welcome all of our current friends as well as any new ones that may like to stop.

I’ll keep updating as progress continues.

Close, but not quite.

Sunday, September 7th, 2008

We worked our tails off over the weekend and made a lot of progress in our move.  Unfortunately, not quite enough to effectively open on Monday.  We will be working throughout the day, and should be ready to open Tuesday morning.  We appreciate everyone’s patience, and especially want to thank everyone who helped us so much over the weekend.

WE’RE MOVING, JUST NOT QUITE YET.

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

I guess there have to be glitches in every major project, and ours was no different.  We had planned on being in our new location on Tuesday, Sept. 2, but because of problems with the carpet, it has been pushed back to hopefully, Monday Sept. 8th.

To our loyal customers, we apologize for any confusion this may cause, but appreciate all of your words of encouragement through this frustrating time.  Our main concern is having one less day available to make the move, but we will get it done.

We look forward to seeing you all on the 8th.

Again, thanks to you all.

Mike

WE’RE MOVING!

Saturday, August 23rd, 2008

After 4 wonderful years at our current location, the time has finally come to take the next step.  We are moving to the Soo Plaza on the I-75 Business Spur.  We will be between Joanne Fabrics and Sault Vision Clinic.

The move will give us more than 3 times the space than our current location allows.  Needless to say, we are very excited about that.

We are planning to make our move over the Labor Day Weekend.  We plan to close early on Saturday and re-open at the new location on Sept. 2nd.

This of course depends on whether our new site will be ready.  The contractors are doing a great job and are working very hard to get us in on time.  The way it looks now, the only things left in the front part of the store to do are the ceiling and the carpet.

Again, many thanks to the great guys who are working so hard to make this possible.

Hope to see you in the new digs in a week or so.

Thanks to all of you for making this possible.

Mike & Margie
