A NEW ERA?

Tuesday, September 4th, 2007

A new era of sorts got underway this morning at the bookstore, as we began using our new Quickbooks POS hardware and software.  We both think this will greatly enhance our customer service, both at the store and on-line.

However, it will take a considerable amount of patience on our part, and especially on the part of our customers while we are getting acclimated.

our sincerest thanks to everyone who has patiently waiting while we irone out bugs for figured out how to use the software.

Chippewa County Best Young Authors -2007-

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

This is a remarkable book in that it’s the brainchild of a young lady who has not yet completed elementary school.  With only minimal assistance and guidance from her family, she solicited sponsorship, edited and published this selection of poetry and short stories from area students.

Student authors range from 3rd to 12th grade and show a remarkable amount of ability and creativity.  Even the cover photograph was taken by a young lady of 13.  Our young editor says she wants to make this an annual publication, and judging from the results of her initial effort this should not be difficult to achieve.

Chippewa County Best Young Authors 2007  sells for $10.00 and is available a most area bookstores including Up North Books.

Alive and Free in the EUP

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

Larry P. Flanders of Trout Lake has created a delightful look at life in Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula.  Flanders,  a long-time teacher at Rudyard High School and Lake Superior State University has had a number of stories, articles and essays published.  But, he waited until retirement to compile his first anthology.

The book should appeal to a wide range of readers, especially those who feel a closeness with the natural wonders of the Eastern U.P.  A 16-page color insert of the author’s photos is included in the book.

Alive and Free in the EUP  is available for $15.00 at most local booksstores including Up North Books.  Proceeds from the book will be donated to the Rudyard Area Education Foundation, a group that Flanders and some of his former Rudyard teaching colleagues helped organize 3 years ago.  RAEF is an affiliate of the Chippewa County Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula.
